Kingston women’s first 38
Brunel women’s first 55
KU's Asrina Miah felt her side worried league-topping Brunel with a fine display despite the 17-point gap between the two teams in their latest basketball clash.
Kingston fought all the way through a very physical game, but could not prevent Brunel, spearheaded by their most valuable player, Faith Okoswa, cementing their place at the top of the table.
Asrina Miah showed her brilliant technical abilities and helped keep Kingston ahead for most of the first half against the best team in the league. However Brunel then turned the game around and never looked back.
Kingston shocked Brunel in the first quarter finishing it 10-8 ahead. And Brunel's coach was impressed with their opponents.
"They proved they could play today," he said. "We trashed them last time, but today it was mostly about effort to win."
Kingston were up by three points, when the scoreboard failed and went blank. The time was counted down manually and at half time when the board was fixed it showed Brunel ahead 23-20
From then on Brunel brought their game to Kingston and were in control. Okoswa was Brunel's star player and was involved in almost everything Brunel created in attack. She looked impossible to stop in the second half of the game.
Miah was proud of the Kingston team's effort against the top of the league, but was a little upset with the way Brunel played after half time.
"I believed in our team, and we gave them a fight," said Miah. "They were scared of us, and had to start fouling us to win the game."
Brunel are now top of the league, but have to win their last two games to be sure of promotion. The coach is clear that his team has to stay consistent in the last games.
"Everyone wants to beat us," he said. "Just like Kingston, who gave us a hard game today."
