About: The only Danish-Pakistani on the journalism course, Mashaal Mir (no relation to the space station) is the editor of The River. When she's not spending time on freelancing and correcting people who think she's from Canada, she enjoys writing poetry, buying notebooks and relaxing at home, otherwise known as Waterstones. Mashaal plans to establish a career in broadcast journalism by working for Al-Jazeera as a foreign correspondent, write a bestseller (which will eventually be made into a movie starring Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep) and direct an Oscar winning documentary.

About: Journalism & Human Rights student hailing from the mean streets of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Other than The River I have written from The Gloucestershire Echo, The Gloucester Citizen and the Stroud News & Journal. I am all about Chelsea Football Club, Thai food, trash television, East Asian politics, vintage clothes, travelling and big house parties. I am not about Jeremy Clarkson, quiche, fancy dress or "action packed" holidays. My heroes are John Pilger, Aung San Suu Kyi, Nelson Mandela, Noam Chomsky and Frank Lampard.

About:Hey there, when I'm not wearing tracksuits in front of signs whilst staring inquisitively into the distance, I'm reading or writing. One day I’m hoping to get far enough in journalism to get paid to go places I can only dream about and then tell everyone else how much nicer the weather is there.

About: I'm a 21 year-old Essex girl (though not the typical kind) who loves to cook, read and write. My favourite book is American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis (don't judge me for it) and my favourite cook is Nigella Lawson. I'd love to become involved in food journalism after graduation, but I'd also love to move to Iceland or Finland, so we'll see how that works out! I review art exhibitions and theatre performances for the Colchester Circle magazine's blog.
