Kingston students get active for the 'Right To Play'
This March, Kingston University, in conjunction with BUCs and Universities across the country, will take part in the first ever Right to Play month.
Right to Play work with some of the world’s most disadvantaged children across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, using sport and games to encourage physical, mental and social development.
During this month of events, KU students have the opportunity to take part in charity work and volunteering to raise £1,000 for the scheme.
Rhiannon Hiscocks, VP Activities for Kingston Student’s Union, said: “Right to Play is such an important charity and we’re hoping to raise more than the £1,000. Some of the Netball girls raised just over £900 before Christmas which was fantastic”.
Rhiannon is currently putting together a team of KU students for the Right to Play bike ride in July, a three day cycle from Brussels to London.
“It’s going to be awesome and each of us taking part has to raise £1,000. Universities all over Britain are contributing from Skydiving to cake sales, you don't have to be an elite athlete to take part, every student can take part in Right to Play Month.”.
British Universities are being encouraged to show the Right to Play logo on their sports kit from next year.
Right to Play programmes reach 750,000 children across 24 countries every week.
