Cricketers Pub Closes After Arrest

A popular student pub has been closed by police after an arrest was made for fraud.

The Cricketers Pub on Fairfield South near the Penrhyn Road and Knights Park campuses has been closed since Wednesday 11 November after a police raid on the premises.

Rochelle D’Cruz, a spokesperson for Kingston Met Police said: “A warrant was carried out at the Cricketers Pub on Wednesday 11 November during the early afternoon where a 38 year old man was arrested for fraud.”

A sign  in the  front window of the pub however said it was “closed for refurbishment”.

News of the closure disappointed many students who had been lured there for the pub's Thai food and regular karaoke.

Initially it was feared that the pub would not re-open until January at the earliest. But an unnamed member of staff this week reassured social events organisers at the University that the pub would be open in time for departmental Christmas parties.

Ms D’Cruz added: “The arrested man has been bailed until January pending further enquiries. The investigation is ongoing.”
