Bars More Popular Than ASM

Man drinkingToday 15 per cent more students spent lunch time at the university bars than attended the Students’ Union ASM meeting.

There were over 100 people in Space bar and the Knights park bar this lunchtime compared to an average of 85 at the ASM in Clattern lecture theatre, where they needed at least 100 people to pass a motion.

Many students claimed they did not know enough about it. Ignacio Munoz, 20, a first year Aerospace Engineering student in Space bar said:  “Yes a friend told me classes were cancelled but I thought the meeting was just for lecturers.”

Penryhn  Road library was also busy this afternoon with students using the time off to study. Sarah Bragg, 23, fourth year Chemistry said: “I probably should have gone because I’m a course representative, but I am too busy for that sort of thing.”

Students being lazy, drinking instead of partaking in active politics/getting involved with the running of their university.. Hardly news is it? There need to be more incentives and the possible results of getting involved in the AGM and SU need to be published more widely by both the university and union so students can actually be bothered to get involved.
