Exhibition Celebrating Nipper the HMV Dog at Toilet Gallery
Last Wednesday three ex- Kingston University art students opened their latest exhibition ‘Open Road’ at a local gallery.
Former art and space students Patrick Blower, David Loder and Kate Renwick are the resident artists at the Toilet Gallery and their latest exhibition is a celebration of the HMV mascot Nipper the dog.
The inspiration came after they campaigned to name the road the gallery is on and settled on Nipper Alley last autumn.
“Nipper is buried less than one hundred metres away and there is even a plaque in Lloyds bank so we thought it would be nice to build a show on it” explained Blower.
The exhibition distorts and manipulates the image in a variety of ways, including a sculpture made from old records, animation made on an iPhone application and a basic communist Russian style gramophone which the artists are inviting people to use to record memories of Kingston on.
The new street sign will be officially unveiled next Wednesday at noon and the exhibition is open until March 21 on Wednesday one until six, Saturday 10 until six and Sunday noon until six.
