Kingston’s men’s Basketball team defeated rivals LSE by just three points on Wednesday during a mixed afternoon for Kingston Sports.

The men’s Basketball team took a major step toward securing promotion to the BUCS Premier Division and clinching the division 1A crown after they successfully displaced LSE from the top of the table, and remain undefeated in 2008.

The men’s team narrowly out scored their opponents 74 – 71 to claim their fourth victory of the season, and now climb to the top of the league. The women’s team also fared well, defeating bottom side Essex 57 – 23 in the Kingston Arena.

The men’s Rugby team did not share their fellow students’ good fortune however, losing 16- 27 to Brighton Men’s Firsts at Fairfield Park. The team had hoped to carry some of last week’s form into this match, their first league game back after suspension, but could not find the same form that brought them a 107-0 victory against Brunel’s Thirds the previous week.

The netballers also found themselves on the losing side for the first time this season, losing to top side Brunel by just three points, 33 – 30, to drop to third in the table.

Big matches for Kingston’s Firsts Football teams saw the men’s Football team, who are without a win all season, take on top of the league UCL, while the women’s team took on undefeated rivals Brunel. Both sides came out on the losing end, but put in good performances that showed much improvement from previous weeks; the men losing 4-3 and the women 4-2.  

A winless women’s Hockey team played out a defensive stalemate with Portsmouth and were unlucky to come away losers 1-0.

Still to play this week are the men’s Cricket team who play Worcester Park on Sunday at 6pm at Guildford Cricket Centre, and the Men’s American Football team, who are affiliated with the University of Surrey. The American Football team , the Surrey Stingers, play Kent this Sunday in their first match of the season in Guildford Park at 1pm.

Both men’s and women’s Tennis teams will return to action next week, the men keen to continue their run of form while the women will try to secure their first win of the season.
