Kingston University’s Basketball Firsts defeated bitter rivals Brunel on Wednesday night, in front of an excited crowd at the Kingston Arena. The scoreboard read 114 – 64 to the home team, after what had been billed as the “toughest game of the year” turned into a wipe-out for Brunel – much to the delight of the Kingston fans. “They always give us a tough game” said game MVP and 3rd Year Sports Science Student Mateusz Prazmo, “We did not expect the score to be as it was.” Kingston’s Basketball Firsts were delighted and will go into next weeks match against second place LSE full of confidence and, most importantly, undefeated. “Last year, we were 20 points ahead at half time, and Brunel game back to defeat us”, said Prazmo. This emphatic win will surely put to bed the ghosts of that infamous evening. From the start, a smaller but faster Kingston team exerted their dominance capitalising on poor defending from Brunel to pull ahead by 17 points before the away team could get on the scoreboard. Marius Poskus’ rebound set up Prazmo for an easy lay up to open the scoring before Kingston turned it on with a string of silky moves, orchestrated by Team Captain Bode Adeluola, another contender for the MVP award after converting 8 out of 10 free throws. Supporters were treated to a host of three-pointers from the home side, namely from Prazmo who converted no less than five and were reluctant to pause for half time with their team leading 54-30. But with the ghosts of the previous year still lurking, Kingston came out strong and fast in the third quarter, pilling on the points and further frustrating a beleaguered Brunel team whose star, Maximillion Simon, was too distracted by the quick counters of Kingston to make any real impact upon the game. Leading 91-48 going into the final quarter, Kingston allowed some of its fresher reserve players to take control of the court and see out the game and the century mark was passed by a well converted three-pointer by 3rd Year International Business Student, Matt Findlay. The final score, 114-64, could have easily been increased had the starters remained on the court but Kingston’s determination and strength of depth are the real proof that promotion to the Premier Division of the British University and College Sports League is a reality that could be achieved this year.

| Cheeky cat in hallsGorgeous George the cat is much loved and petted by the residents and staff at Middle Mill Halls, but, his cheeky antics have got him into trouble. He can often be found pacing the car park meowing at passers by, lounging in reception or nipping into halls for extra strokes. However, halls management are now concerned that this felicitous feline is breaching the licence and have put up a sign asking students to prevent him sneaking into bedrooms and becoming overfed. |
