Fallout 3, My Sims Kingdom, James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace, Manhunt 2
Fallout 3:
Set in an alternate future, in a post apocalyptic Washington DC, the game focuses on the child of two survivors of a nuclear war that devastated the planet. After your father leaves the safety of Vault 101, your craving for adventure leads you to follow him into the Fallout 3 wasteland. The game is an RPG at heart, but features first and third person perspectives, which allow a player to explore the expanse thoroughly. “Fallout 3 is a profoundly engrossing role-playing game just waiting to reveal its deep, dark mysteries.” The game is available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, with prices ranging from £29.99 to £37.99. My Sims Kingdom:
“While most games stake their sales-chart dreams on violence, profanity. and misanthropic escapism, EA's My Sims games seem to take the opposite approach, casting you as a creative and helpful traveler in a magical landscape.” The game is available on the DS and the Wii, with prices ranging from £29.99 to £39.99.
James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace
The game combines a first person shooter with a third person combat system, providing the player with a unique perspective of the in-game environment. The game works on utilising a player’s stealth, hand to hand combat and shooting skills to fulfil each mission and progress through the game. “It's looking much more solid and well-conceived than most of the James Bond titles we've seen over the last ten years.” The game is available on all platforms, with prices ranging from £29.99 to £49.99.
Manhunt 2:
Although a huge amount of the game has been cut to secure its 18 certificate, the game promises to be a big success amongst those who enjoy games purely based on blood and gore. You play as Daniel Lamb, an ordinary man who wakes up in an asylum to find he has been experimented on. The aim of the game is to fight your way out and uncover the truth behind your incarceration. “Manhunt 2 is pitch dark adult entertainment. It is grim, grey and bloody, with a story that starts off dark and just keeps putting more lights out until you reach the end of the ride.” The game is available on PS2, Wii and Xbox 320, with prices ranging from £29.99 to £39.99.

| Research grants announcedKingston University last week received a 5.3% increase in its government grant for research and teaching. The Higher Education Funding Council for England announced that Kingston would receive £73.3m in 2009/10. The average national increase was 4%, while a number of universities, including the London School of Economics, saw their funding reduced. |

| Bring your own mugA money saving scheme has been extended to the Penryhn Road campus. Lecturers and students who bring their own mug to the Picton Room will receive a 5p discount off any hot drink. The scheme, already trialling at Kingston Hill, was introduced in a bid to encourage sustainability and cut back on packaging produced by the university. If successful, it will be extended to all the foodstores. |
| Cheeky cat in hallsGorgeous George the cat is much loved and petted by the residents and staff at Middle Mill Halls, but, his cheeky antics have got him into trouble. He can often be found pacing the car park meowing at passers by, lounging in reception or nipping into halls for extra strokes. However, halls management are now concerned that this felicitous feline is breaching the licence and have put up a sign asking students to prevent him sneaking into bedrooms and becoming overfed. |
| Honorary degree for leading luvvieOne of the leading lights behind the Rose Theatre received an honorary degree from Kingston University last month in the building he helped to create.Robin Hutchinson, 50, worked for over 25 years to bring the theatre to reality.
