Ever wanted to dress up in medieval attire? Well now’s your chance. The Canterbury Tales are being performed at The Waggon & Horses pub in Surbiton.
Rogues, wenches and knights are just a few of the characters who will be recreating Geoffrey Chaucer’s tales through song, dance and tomfoolery! Due to the popularity of last year’s sell out show of Scaramouche Tacit theatre are back converting the Waggon & Horses pub’s beer garden into a medieval land where the performance of The Canterbury Tales will take place in a traditional Tavern theatre. Tom Daplyn, both director and actor in the show said: “Most of us will have come across the tales at school and I'd urge anyone thinking of coming to the show to set aside any memories of indecipherable and unpronounceable early English and jokes only their teacher found funny. We've set up a tented medieval tavern in the garden of the Waggon and Horses in Surbiton, updated the language and will be telling only the rudest and most raucous of the tales. All polite theatre behaviour is to be strictly ignored as we encourage our audience to be as loud and unruly as the stories themselves. The bar remains open throughout the performance.” It is worth hunting the charity shops for corsets, swords or whatever takes your fancy, as prizes will be allocated to the best dressed at the end of each performance, if it is not your desire to dress up then do not worry it is not compulsory. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays it is student night where you can get a burger with your ticket for the show at a bargain of only ten pounds. There is the chance to dine before hand in with a three-course meal along with drinks at an added cost. The Canterbury Tales runs from the 6th-18th of March and tickets cost £10 for the show only or £29.95 for the three-course meal and show. Dinner reservations are available between 18.30-19.30 and the shows starts at 20.30. It is advisable to book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
